RPA and AMA recommend physician-led Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) |

RPA: RPA’s comments recommended that: (1) CMS allow the “pooling” of patients among separate small providers to foster compliance with the 5,000 patient minimum; (2) that CMS minimize administrative burdens and provide relief in the form of ‘safe harbors’ facilitate the participation of small providers; (3) that CMS select financing mechanisms that promote sustainability and predictability in physician reimbursement, and consider the next generation of shared savings programs; and (4) that CMS adhere to the accepted principles of quality measure development science as it selects, develops, and adopts measures for use in ACOs, among other recommendations.
