Patients in the Volta Region who have kidney related ailments and require dialysis have no choice than to travel to Korle Bu in Accra for dialysis.

This is because the region does not have a dialysis machine at its major referral Centre - the Volta Regional Hospital.

The agony of some of these patients is that they are sometimes unable to access the services due to the queues at Korle Bu. Sometimes patients return to the Volta Region unattended to.

According to the Medical Director of the Volta Regional Hospital, Dr John Tampouri, the hospital a lot of renal cases which they have to refer eto Kole Bu Teacching Hospital very time.

In their bid to reduce the burden of their clients, the Volta Regional Hospital has gone into partnership with DMed Healthcare AG Limited for the provision of dialysis machines to the hostpital.

The machines are expected to be installed in few weeks and after a water treatment plant has been installed.

To help get the water treatment plant for the dialysis machines, the Queen Mothers Asogli, with the support of the paramount Queen Mother Mamaga Akua Dei, have begun soliciting funds for the hospital to ensure that the water treatment plant required for the dialysis machines to function at maximum capacity is installed as early as possible.

Mama Atrato II, Queen Mother of Ho Dome is appealing to all benevolent organizations and individuals to assist.

She says it is necessary to get the dialysis centre running now considering the hustle people of the region go through to access dialysis machines at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

The cost of the water treatment plant is estimated at GHc 29, 000.00.
